How do braces work?
Braces use a system of brackets affixed to each tooth, a metal archwire running through them, and small elastics to hold everything together.
To progress through treatment, you will visit us for regular adjustment appointments where we will place targeted pressure on your teeth through small bends in your archwires. This gentle pressure will slowly guide your teeth into the desired positions.
Types of braces at SOP
Here are the types of braces we offer at our practice:
Metal braces
Metal braces are the original orthodontic method. Braces today are much smaller, more comfortable and more efficient than braces of the past. They are also extremely durable and effective at treating even complex cases.
Ceramic braces
Ceramic braces work in the same way as metal braces except that the brackets are made out of ceramic instead of stainless steel. These tooth coloured brackets are much less noticeable and help your treatment blend in beautifully with your smile.
Lingual braces
If you want a truly discreet treatment, lingual braces might be a great option. They still use the traditional system of brackets and archwires, but the brackets are fixed to the back of your teeth instead of the front. This hides them completely from view when you smile.
Invisible braces
At SOP, we also offer invisible braces, also known as clear aligners. Aligners don’t require any metal brackets or wires to straighten your smile. They are made of virtually invisible clear plastic and are conveniently removable so they won’t affect your diet or routine during treatment.
